It's Hammer Time!

In honor of Shark Week, I was inspired to create a painting that captured the mystery and majestic nature of the shark! I decided to paint the most mysterious of all sharks... the Hammerhead. I actually took this picture of a Great Hammerhead at the Adventure Aquarium in New Jersey. I was really happy that I could illustrate the beautiful dark mysteriousness of the Hammerhead.

Secret Garden

This painting I actually started awhile ago, but for some reason I never had the motivation to finish it. But one night in July, I was staring at it, and I decided it was time to finish it! I was so happy with the way it turned out... you can just feel the warm glow, mystery, and magic. For as long as I can remember, I have fantasized about finding a garden like this so I decided to call this painting "Secret Garden"...

Gifts

My brother-in-law and his girlfriend moved into their very first apartment recently! I am so excited for them... their first time on their own! So I decided as a house warming gift I would paint something for each of them.

Corey (my bro-in-law) loves horror movies and video games... and one in particular, Silent Hill. I love them as well! He told me once that he wanted me to paint the Pyramid Head from the game/movie. I doubted he would actually put it up, but he swore he would! So that's what I painted him!

For Sha (Corey's girlfriend), I decided to go with something more cuddly lol. They recently got a new baby! An adorable puppy! And they named him RJ... so I decided to create a portrait of their baby :o)

Can't Escape This Storm

This summer (as most summers do... for me anyway) seemed to have a black storm cloud over it. As much as I tried, I could not get away from it. So instead I attempted to embrace the storm. This painting was inspired by Van Gogh... the tumbling storm clouds colliding with the sea. This one is titled "Can't Escape This Storm."

Summer

I haven't posted in awhile, but I have been busy painting!

My first piece is the next segment to my Faces of Culture Series... the Face of India. This woman had amazing features that I tried to capture... each deep wrinkle holding an abundance of wisdom. I also tried to incorporate the beautiful vibrant fabrics and colors used throughout Indian culture.

Folk Art

I came to a HUGE realization recently... I finally figured out what my favorite art is.

Folk Art.

I am always drawn to folk art the most. Usually when I have a choice, I will always choose a Folk Art piece over another. There's something about it I cannot describe. Whenever I look at a piece of Folk Art it seems to have a soul or spirit. The colors make it come alive. It just feels as though this art is so spiritual, so personal. I very much admire canvas paintings and traditional sculpture as well, but there is something about Folk Art that puts it on another level for me.

After perusing the many vendors at the Philadelphia Flower Show, I walked away with a beautiful Mexican Folk Art sun...

Current Projects

So I have a few things going on right now... and they are all taking longer than I'd like because I go back and forth between them.

1. My very first clay sculpture! Inspired by the famous "Venus/Woman of Willendorf." I have always loved this piece, and I am sort of creating a three-dimensional version of my Venus ink prints... Venus ink print.

2. A Mixed Media Painting inspired by Alice in Wonderland... I am excited by the progress of this painting! It's just very time-consuming and tedious.

3. My traditional acrylic style painting inspired by Pyramid Head from Silent Hill for my little bro-in-law.

4. Mixed Media Painting for my little bro-in-law's girlfriend... something different using an actual printed picture with added elements surrounding it.

Soon I will be creating two family tree murals in my hallway... one for my side of the family, and one for my hubby's side.

I also we creating a trio of framed photography for my younger brother who just moved into the city. He's super excited about this move, and he should be! It's a huge step for him, and a good one I believe! So we will be creating three shots... two of particular city pubs he loves, and the third will be a close up on his favorite beer Duvel. I might also be creating a multi-canvas painting for along his stairs... we'll see how everything unfolds.

So lots of things in the works lol plus the Philadelphia Flower Show is coming up! Lots of pictures to be taken! I'm so happy that the theme has changed from Europe... for three years in a row, the theme was European of some sort, and now it's Hawaii! Can't wait!
