Venus of Willendorf

My Art Assignment: Ink Printing with an Aboriginal Theme

I chose to do the Venus of Willendorf (who I absolutely love <3) and then surround her with Aboriginal designs. I'm absolutely fascinated by this statue :o) I carved her figure into a foam board, then I made several prints on archival paper. Then spent the night painting Aboriginal styled designs around her :o)

The first red orange toned print I goofed up trying to touch up the print with black paint, and I had to paint in the arms. Its a shame because I loved! the way design around her turned out. So the green yellow toned print turned out so much better because I didn't touch the ink. I'm really happy with the results of this project! My Professor loved it too so she submitted it to be voted on!

Now we are working on our final project, everyone was to come up with their own project and lesson plan. I chose the Egyptian Mummy, specifically King Tut, but for the kids it would just be the mummy. I'm so excited about it! Its going to be alot of work, but I really think its going to be worth it!

Mexican Folk Art

My Art Assignment: To re-create Mexican Folk Art using Scratchboard

This picture is terrible (taken with my cell)! But my Professor submitted it to be voted on so I have no idea when I'll see it again lol

I chose an iguana because I had an image in my head of what I wanted to do. First I sketched him, then transferred the sketch on to the Scratchboard. After the painstaking scratch process... I used neon permanent markers to give him tons of color. You can't see it with this pic, but I added color outlines, blends, and fades. This project took me a few weeks to complete because it was very tedious! But I am happy with the results :o)

Mexican Folk Art

The city is killing me.

There's just something about this hotel
Got me wishin' I was dead.
Got to get out of New York City,
Somewhere I can clear my head.

I was just kickin' along the sidewalk,
No one looks you in the eye,
No one asks you how you doin',
Don't seem to care if you live or die.

I just got to get me somewhere,
Somewhere that I can feel free,
Get me out of New York City, son,
New York City's killin' me.

I get so tired of all this concrete.
I get so tired of all this noise.
Gotta get back up in the country,
And have a couple drinks with the good ole' boys.

I just got to get me somewhere,
Somewhere that I can be free,
Get me out of New York City, son,
New York City's killin' me.

~This is the song in heart right now... I just found this song tonight, and it explains exactly how I feel. (Just replace NYC with Philly.) It gave me chills...

Shepherd of the Forest

I was talking to a fellow art major last week, and she knew all these things I needed to know about my portfolio requirements! And it seems as though drawings, self portraits and still life are the things they want to see... how boring lol. But it is what it is! So I am currently working on a self portrait painting, and I hope it turns out! Its going to take awhile...

But yesterday, I spent the entire day and way into the night painting an Ent which for you non-Lord of the Rings fans is a Tree Man or Tree Spirit... and I'm so happy with how it turned out! I just don't want to stop painting! I'm getting inspired by everything... I love it <3

But anyways here is my Ent :o)
